-- The University of Detroit Mercy men's outdoor track and field team captured its seventh win in eight tries over the Oakland Grizzlies as the Titans hosted the eighth annual Dual vs. Oakland Saturday at Titan Field.
 
The men defeated Oakland 110-70 and are now 7-1 overall at the OU Dual.
 
It was a day that saw a number of first place finishes and highlights.
 
Bob Radlich took the 3000 meter race leading the whole way and nearly set a Titan Field record. His time of 8:40.45 is now the new No. 5 Titan-best.
 
Derek Gielarowski made his debut in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 6:26.62 setting a new Titan record breaking the old mark established by Edwin Gay last season.
 
Gay set his own new personal mark in the 3000 meters making his debut and recording the No. 9 best time at 10:23.61.
 
Joe Raffin was first in the 400 meters with a 49.91 mark and Charles Anthony came in the top position in the 100 meters with a time of 11.45. Anthony also added another first place in the 200 meters at 22.63.
 
The 800 meters had Joshua Carolin come in first clocking in at 1:56.44 while Vince Lefler was first in the 400 meter hurdles with a 55.40 time.
 
Ryan Hofsess was first in the mile run at 4:25.88 and Steven Ivanics came in second at 15.56 in the 110 meter hurdles.
 
In the throwing events, Colin Cashner was second in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.07m/170-10,  Jeff Sherman was third in the shot put with a distance of 14.4m/46-04, in the discus, Jake Millyard was fourth at 37.77m/123-11, and Taylor Hennrick was third in the javelin with a throw of 28.01m/91-10.
 
Hennrick also had a pole vault mark of 2.75m/9-0.
 
In the long jump, Ja'Quan Patterson continued a fine senior year with a first place finish of 6.69m/21-11 and added a first place in the triple jump with a mark of 12.76m/41-10.  In the high jump, Justin Peguese was third leaping 1.99m/6-06.
 
In the Tommy Titan Kids Race, Dekia Thompson emerged atop the 100 meter dash against Tommy Titan and Clawz from Oakland and a host of children nine and under. The other open event on the day was the open mile which former Titan Kevin Smalley won with a time of 5:05.65.
 
Seven seniors were honored and recognized for their contributions to Detroit Titans Track and Field.
 
Aviram Campbell, Edwin Gay, Taylor Hennrick, Vince Lefler, Ja'Quan Patterson, Bob Radlich, Chris Smalley were all honored in a short ceremony.
 
Detroit will now focus on the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Sacramento State in California that is scheduled to start on Thursday while others will participate in the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational at Sienna Heights in Adrian.
