Detroit Ends Series Against UIC With a Loss

DETROIT (4/7/13) – The Detroit softball team ended its three-game series with UIC on Sunday with a 19-3 loss in five innings at Buysse Ballpark.
 
Kayla Kostich went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI and Christa McGahuey went 2-2 with a double for the Titans.
 
UIC (13-19, 5-0 HL) jumped on the board early, scoring seven runs on seven hits in the top of the first.
 
In the bottom half of the inning with one out and a runner on, Kostich hit her third home run of the year over the left field fence. After Sara Cupp walked, McGahuey doubled to center to put runners on second and third with one out. Sara Cupp was able to cross the plate on a ground out to cap-off a three-run first inning.
 
The Flames scored a pair of runs in the second and added 10 more in the top of the third to bring the final score to 19-3 after five innings.
 
The Titans are now 3-27 (0-3 HL) and will continue conference play when they travel to Youngstown, Ohio to play the Penguins of Youngstown State in a three-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday.
