Titans Drop Doubleheader to IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (5/1/13) – The Detroit softball team lost two games to IPFW Wednesday afternoon in Fort Wayne. The Mastodons took game one 8-0 in five innings and completed the two-game sweep with a 4-0 win in the second game.
 
Katelyn Steffel had the only hit in the first game with a double to left center and added another hit in the second game. Sara Cupp went 2-3 with a double and Kayla Kostich added two more hits in game two.
 
In game two, Detroit (5-42) threatened early, putting runners on first and third in the first inning but IPFW (28-13) was able to escape the jam without giving up a run. In the top of the third Cupp hit a double to right field with two outs, but the Mastodons were able to escape that scoring chance as well.
 
Cupp led off the top of the sixth with a single to left and Kostich singled to center to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a fly out to center, Christa McGahuey singled up the middle to load the bases. IPFW struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning and spoil the Titans' best scoring chance
 
IPFW scored first with a run in the third and added two more in the fourth. It finished the scoring with another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
In the first game Steffel was the lone Titan to record a hit with a double to lead off the second inning. The Mastodons scored eight runs on 10 hits and their pitcher struck out nine batters.
 
UDM will finish the season with a three-game series at Green Bay on Saturday and Sunday.
