Titans Drop Two Close Games at Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wisc. (5/4/13) – The Detroit softball team fell to Green Bay in both games of today's doubleheader in Green Bay.
 
The Phoenix took game one, 5-4, in the eighth inning, scoring a run in both the seventh and eighth innings. Detroit dropped the second game, 3-2, with the winning run coming on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sara Cupp went 5-6 with a double and an RBI while Christa McGahuey had a two-RBI double in game two for UDM's only runs of the game.
 
The Phoenix scored first with an RBI double in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Detroit responded in the next inning when Kostich singled to plate Kat Hoffman to tie the game at a run each. Katelyn Steffel singled to center to bring Kostich across home plate and Katy Severson hit an RBI single to give the Titans a 3-1 advantage.
 
In the top of the fourth with Alyssa Schaub on second, Cupp singled up the middle to bring her across the plate and extend the lead to 4-1. Green Bay responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull within one run, 4-3.
 
After two scoreless innings, GB tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and added another run in the bottom of the eighth to finish the first game.
 
Game two was held scoreless though three innings until the Phoenix hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.
 
UDM's offense got started in the top of the sixth when Cupp leadoff with a single. Kayla Kostich doubled to put runners on second and third and Christa McGahuey doubled to left to bring two runs across the plate and take a 2-1 lead in the sixth.
 
Green Bay loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on a single, an error and a walk. The game-winning run came across the plate on a hit batsman to end the game with a final score of 3-2.
 
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
