GREEN BAY, Wisc. (5/5/13) – Detroit ended the year with a 5-0 loss to the Phoenix of Green Bay on Sunday.
Katelyn Steffel was 2-4 with a double while
Alyssa Schaub reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Julia Maksym pitched 3.1 innings in relief allowing three hits, a pair of strikeouts, and only one earned run.
The Titans (5-45, 2-19 HL) had the first scoring chance in the top of the first when
Sara Cupp was hit by a pitch and
Katelyn Steffel doubled to center field to put runners on second and third with two outs. Green Bay forced a pop out to get out of the inning and spoil UDM's early scoring chance.
The Phoenix (15-25, 8-12 HL) scored early and often, putting a run on the board in the first two innings and then two in the third. Green Bay would add another run in the top of the fourth to bring its tally to four runs.
Detroit had runners on first and second with no outs in the top of the sixth inning. The runners advanced a base on a ground out and the Phoenix loaded the bases for the Titans when they walked
Karyn McCarty. Maksym hit a hard line drive but the second baseman was able to grab it to end the inning not allowing UDM to put a run on the board.
Detroit ends its season 5-45 and a 2-19 mark in the Horizon League.
