DETROIT (10/23/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing programs have finalized its 2014-15 schedule. The Detroit fencing teams are set to open their regular season in November and continue through the NCAA National Championships in March.
Under the direction of head coach
Todd Dressell, entering his 16th year at the helm of the UDM fencing program, the Titans have seven different regular season meets prior to the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships.
UDM will open its season on Nov. 23 at the Istvan Danosi Open, hosted by Wayne State University just down the Lodge Freeway on the campus of Wayne State. Following the new year, Detroit is set to travel to New York to compete in the Army Duals and Vassar Duals on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18, respectively.
Detroit hosts its lone event of the season on Jan. 25 at Calihan Hall. The Titans will host Michigan, Michigan State, Oakland as well as some other teams in the Detroit Invitational. The fencing teams will then return to the road the next two weekends for the Northwestern Duals on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 and Notre Dame Duals on Feb. 7.
Following the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships from Feb. 13-16, the Titans will compete in the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships on Feb. 21-22. Northwestern will serve as hosts for the NCAA Midwest Fencing Regionals in Evanston, Ill., which are scheduled for March 7-8.
For the second straight year, Ohio State will host the 2015 NCAA Fencing Championships in Columbus, Ohio, from March 19-23.
