ANN ARBOR, Mich. (2/22/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's indoor track and field competed in its final weekend of preparation before the 2014 Horizon League Indoor Championships. The Titans split this weekend with competition at Grand Valley State and the University of Michigan.
At Grand Valley State the Titans were at the GVSU Big Meet and graduate student
Shannon Marchant posted the best finish for Detroit at GVSU. Marchant made her debut in the 800m that saw her finish in second place in a field of 34. With her time of 2:15.34, she was able to post the fourth-best Titan mark of all-time.
Junior
Sara Taylor posted a season-best and her second-fastest career mark in the mile run at 5:20.05 while senior
Ciara Curley-Poppe finished with a time of 5:32.59. Senior
Torrie Eger ran 11:41.05 in the 3000m to place 14th overall.
In Ann Arbor, UDM was competing at the Silverston Invitational.
It was a pair of Titan sprinters leading the way for UDM at Michigan as sophomore
Allison Garner and junior
Jasmine Greene finished back-to-back in the 60 meters. Garner was third at 7.87 and Greene was right behind at 7.94. Garner and Greene also finished back-to-back in the 200 meter dash as Garner again edged out her teammate in third at 26.28 and Greene fourth at 26.36.
Other highlights included senior
Brandee Hart who ran the 60 meter hurdles in 9.27 to finish sixth.
Sophomore
Alani Letang was fourth in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 1:00.75.
In the throws, senior
Lauren Berlin tossed a season-best of 11.62m to place fifth in the shot put while fellow classmate
Stephanie Blanchard was sixth at 11.15m in the same event.
The Titans will conclude the indoor conference season with the 2014 Horizon League Indoor Championships that is scheduled for March 1-2 and will be hosted by Youngstown State.
