LAKE MARY, Fla. (3/12/2014) -- It was a good way to end a very productive spring break trip for the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team as the Titans captured second in both the team and individual standings at the Seminole Spring Break Invitational on Wednesday.
The two-round event was hosted by Seminole State College Of Florida at the Par 72, 6,151-yard Timacuan Country Club. The host Raiders won the tournament with a 618 (311-307), while the Titans were second with a 636 (323-313) total. Florida Atlantic was third carding a 636 (315-323), while UIC was fourth at 694 (356-338).
"I was very pleased with the tournament and the whole week of practice and play that we put in," said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. "We played on Seminole State's home course and I think it is harder than the Mission Inn Resort where we play the Horizon League Championship."
Senior
Lindsey Lammers followed her win at the Titan Tri-Match on Sunday by placing second with a 151 (76-75), just one stroke off the lead. It was her 21st career top-10 finish as well as the 18th top-five mark that she has posted.
Three other Titans were in the top 10 as junior
Olivia Richards earned eighth with a 161 (82-79). Senior
Christina Thorne took ninth posting a 162 (81-81), while junior
Jessica Mallender claimed 10th shooting a 163 (85-78).
"I was very happy to see Jess come back and play one of her best rounds of the week and of the season in the second round," said Coach Ryan. "She has worked as hard anyone and she keeps improving."
The Titans will now return home and will look to get back on the course in nearly two weeks as they are set to play in the Butler Spring Invitational from March 24-25, held at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind.
