Final Results
WINTER LAKE, Fla. (3/4/2014) – The first of four tournaments in a nine-day span was completed by the Titans as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team finished up play at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational, hosted by Rollins College at the Par-72, 6089-yard Tuscawilla Country Club on Tuesday.
The Titans weren't quite back at full strength, but Detroit did play round three with four golfers to post an official score 341. UDM concluded the tournament without a true team score due to only having three golfers in the line-up during the first two rounds yesterday.
Senior
Christina Thorne led the way by tying for 40th with a 243 (83-77-83), while junior
Olivia Richards shared 44th carding a 246 (76-84-86). Freshman
Sarah Thompson tallied a 250 (83-84-83) for 64th place and junior
Jessica Mallender shot an 89 on the final 18, one day after battling the flu that saw her withdraw from the first 36 holes.
No. 1 ranked Lynn of Division II won the event with a 903, while No. 4 Florida Tech was second at 913 and host No. 2 Rollins third with a 922.
Detroit will get a few more days of practice in before its next event on Friday, Mar. 7, when the Titans host Seminole State College of Florida in a duel at the Timacuan Golf Club in Lake Mary.
