ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (3/8/14)Karyn McCarty and Katelyn Steffel combined to drive in four runs but it wasn't enough as the University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped the final two games against New Mexico on Saturday at the Lobo Softball Field. The Lobos took the first game 10-3, before completing the series sweep with a 13-3 win in the nightcap.

McCarty went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the first game, while Steffel finished 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game with a pair RBI to lead the Titans.

Detroit (2-16) scored first in the nightcap after and RBI single from Steffel in the top of the first inning. The lead didn't last that long as New Mexico (7-14) sent four Lobos across the plate in the bottom half of the inning to take 4-1 lead. The Titans started to chip away at the lead with one run in both the second and third innings to make the score 4-3. But that was as close as the score would get as the Lobos scored four runs in the bottom of the third before adding two in the fourth and three more in the fifth for the win.

Kat Hoffman had an RBI single in the second inning for Detroit, before Steffel recorded her second run-producing hit of the game in the third.

In the first game, New Mexico jumped out to the early 7-0 lead with three runs in the first inning followed by four more in the third. But the Titans battled back with three runs of their own in the top of fourth inning, including a two-run double to left center from McCarty, to make the score 7-3.

But the Lobos responded immediately by matching the Titans top half of the inning with three more run to make the final 10-3.

Christa McGahuey finished the first game 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored, while Julia Maksym went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
