FORT WAYNE, Ind. (4/7/2014) -- Senior
Lindsey Lammers and freshman
Sarah Thompson were in the top 10 as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team was able to take sixth at the IPFW Spring Invitational.
The two-day event concluded on Monday at the Par 72, 6,075-yard Chestnut Hills Golf Club as the Titans totaled a 630 (314-316), just four shots in back of fifth.
"We weren't at full strength, but it was good to see our players go out there and compete hard," said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. "This course didn't play to our strength and we left some scores out there I feel."
Lammers carded a 2-over 74 on the final 18 to finish in a tie for third at 150 (76-74), just three strokes off the lead. It was her 23rd career top-10 effort and the 14th time in her last 17 events that she has finished in the top five as she topped the competition with 30 pars.
Thompson earned a share of ninth with a 153 (75-78), her second top-10 effort of her rookie year. She also knocked in 26 pars, the second most on the team, and was tied for second on the course's Par 4's with a +3, 4.15 average.
