Shayne Adams scored six goals and took over the Titans' record book for goals and points in a season, but a fourth-period run by Marist ended the year as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team fell, 11-9, on Thursday in the MAAC Semifinals. Alex Maini were named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team.
The third-seeded Titans led 9-7 with under four minutes left in the fourth when the second-seeded Red Foxes ended the game on a 4-0 run to advance to Saturday's MAAC Championship.
Adams broke former teammate and St. Catharines, Ontartio native Joel Matthew's record for goals and points as he ended the year with 42 goals and 49 points, besting Matthews' 37 and 48 ledger in 2010.

Alex Maini had three assists. Freshman
Jason Weber made 16 saves and Adams also picked up a team-high four ground balls.
It was back-and-forth all game as there were eight ties and eight lead changes.
Marist (6-8) scored the games first goal, but Detroit (6-8) came right back with two straight as Maini found Drummond for one and then Beauregard fired in an unassisted goal with 7:50 left in the first.
The Red Foxes scored two more times in the opening frame, but it was tied at 3-3 as Detroit used its historic man-up unit to knot the game at 3-3 as Adams found the back of the net after scooping up a ground ball.
Detroit took a 4-3 lead early in the second as Maini located Adams for his second, but two-straight goals from Marist made it 5-4 at the 5:43 mark. Adams would get his 20th career hat trick with 2:34 left in the opening half and it was a 5-5 game at the break.
Maini hooked up with Adams again in the opening minute of the third for a 6-5 advantage, but Marist would lead 7-6 after three. UDM then went on a 3-0 run to jump out in front 9-7. Birney started the spurt with a marker and then Adams notched his fifth for an 8-7 lead with 13:40 remaining. The Titans' last goal saw senior
Tom Masterson feed Adams and the Canadian teammates gave the red, white and blue a 9-7 lead with 8:33 left and it was that same score with under four to go when Marist made its run.
Detroit was outshot 42-32 and was edged in the battle of ground balls, 25-23. Detroit was 1-of-2 with the man advantage and ended the 2014 season by scoring on 70.8% (34-of-48) of its extra-man advantages, which breaks the NCAA record of 58.6% (41-of-70) by North Carolina in 1985.
For the Titans, the 2014 campaign comes to an end as Detroit tied a school record for the third time with six wins. Detroit also had five players earn All-MAAC, including three on the first team, and had a MAAC-best 19 members made the All-MAAC Academic Team.
