Olivia Richards and sophomore
Sarah Thompson finished in the top 15 as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team wrapped up play at the Golden Grizzly Invitational on Sunday.

The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Oakland at the Par 72, 6,148-yard Katke-Cousins Golf Course.

"We are a young team, but I like this team and we have a lot of potential," said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. "We have a lot of sophomores who are still learning and with Olivia (Richards) and Sarah (Thompson) leading us, we will continue to improve."

Detroit took fifth in the tournament with a 652 (325-327).

Richards – who was in the top 10 all tournament long – fired a 5-over 77 on the day and tied for seventh with a 156 (79-77), her 17th career top-10 finish tying her with Alainna Stefan '11 for third in school history. She had 12 pars and a birdie in the final round and ended the event tying for the team high with 20 pars and three birdies.

Thompson also tallied 20 pars and three birdies on the weekend as she shared 13th with a 158 (77-81). Thompson recorded eight pars and back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 to come away with her sixth career top-20 effort.

Sophomore
Alexandra LeBlanc was 28th with a 168 (83-85), while sophomore
Brooke Sharpe was right behind her tying for 29th with a career-low 170 (86-84). LeBlanc knocked in eight pars with a birdie in day two and Sharpe had six pars and a birdie - not to mention the tournament's lone eagle on Saturday.Â

Sarah Montone improved on her score from the opening round with an 84 and was 38th totaling a 175 (91-84). Senior
Rebecca Mallender carded a 182 (88-94) for 40th and senior
Jessica Mallender took seven strokes off her score yesterday tying for 41st with a 183 (95-88).

The Titans will have two weeks off before their next fall event as the red, white and blue go to Ohio to compete in the Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo at the Catawba Island Club from Oct. 13-14.Â
