ANN ARBOR, Mich. (1/17/2015) -- Senior thrower
Lauren Berlin established a new personal record in the weight throw Saturday as the University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team competed at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational at the University of Michigan.
The Titans competed in the non-team scoring invitational against host Michigan, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Notre Dame, Toledo, Western Michigan and Siena Heights.
Berlin topped her previous best with a weight throw of 13.54 meters (44'5.25"). The senior surpassed her previous top throw of 13.41 meters, which was set at the EMU Triangular in 2014. Berlin also reached 11.65 meters (38'2.75") in the shot put at the meet.
Junior sprinter
Allison Garner placed fourth out of 26 competitors in the 60 meter dash. Garner, who already holds the No. 2 time in the 60 meter dash in school history, was just off her 7.68 PR set in the first meet of the season. Garner qualified for the finals with a time of 7.83 in the preliminaries. She then improved upon her time by crossing in 7.70 in the finals to earn fourth place.
Senior
Shannon Marchant had a strong run in the 600 meter run, finishing with a time of 1:36.63, which placed her sixth out of 21 racers who started. Freshman
Elizabeth Mullen earned a time of 1:41.72 in her 600-meter debut. Senior

Samantha Zakalowski (1:50.60) also ran in the 600 meters.
Sophomore thrower
Ashley Bayles placed 11th in the weight throw and 15th in the shot put to lead Detroit. Her best heave in the shot put was 12.57 meters (41'3"). Bayles reached a distance of 13.90 meters (45'7.25") in the weight throw. Freshman
Delaney O'Rourke set a new PR in the shot put at 11.18 meters (36'8.25"), while also competing in the weight throw with a best throw landing at 10.33 meters (33'10.75").
Junior
Alexandra Lindig made her collegiate debut at the meet, competing in the shot put. Her best heave of the night landed at 10.59 meters (34'9").
Junior
Aisha Potts-Tyre was Detroit's top finisher in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.18. Potts-Tyre placed ninth in the long jump, earning a best jump of 5.13 meters (16'10").
Sophomore
Natalie Peterson (9.81), Hunt (9.99) and junior
Grace Battista (10.18) also ran in the 60 meter hurdles for the Titans.
Freshman
Sydnie Fetherolf lowered her season-best time in the mile to 5:17.24 to lead the Titans in the event. Classmate
Taylor Smith had a time of 5:34.48 in her collegiate mile debut. Sophomore
Devon Sutton crossed in a time of 5:42.30, and freshmen
Jenny Ponkowski (5:44.80) and
Sydney Shaw (6:04.54) also ran their mile debuts for Detroit.
Seniors
Sara Taylor and
Zeinab Baydoun each competed in the 3,000 meters for the Titans, finishing with respective times of 11:07.57 and 11:12.03.
Detroit's top 4x400 meter relay team finished in a time of 4:04.39.
The Titans return competitively on Friday, Jan. 23 at IPFW for a quadrangular meet at 3 p.m.
