YPSILANTI, Mich. (1/9/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team competed in the second meet of the indoor season Friday at the Eastern Michigan University Quadrangular at Bowen Fieldhouse.
The Titans placed third at the meet with 79 points overall. Eastern Michigan, Oakland and the University of Michigan were the other three teams at the meet.
Junior
Aisha Potts-Tyre placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.12 meters to lead the Titans. Sophomore
Paige Anderson also competed in the long jump, finishing at 4.99m to finish in fifth place. Potts-Tyre also led UDM in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing eighth in a time of 9.28.
Sophomore
Ashley Bayles led the trio of Detroit competitors in the shot put. Bayles had a throw of 12.86 meters to finish in third place out of nine participants. Senior
Lauren Berlin's best throw reached 11.80 meters, while freshman
Delaney O'Rourke improved after each throw and finished with a top throw of 10.82 meters in her first collegiate indoor meet.
Bayles led Detroit in the weight throw and set a new PR with a toss of 14.38 meters to finish sixth. Berlin had a throw of 12.97 meters, while O'Rourke posted a top throw of 10.53 meters.
Junior sprinter
Allison Garner placed fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.83. Freshman
Brogan Holmes finished seventh in a time of 8.22, while junior
Jessica Doherty followed just behind at 8.25. Freshman
Alyson Hamilton posted a time of 8.37 in the 60 meter dash for the Titans.
Garner and Holmes each crossed in the top 10 in the 200 meter dash. Garner placed sixth in a time of 26.22, while Holmes finished ninth in a time of 26.87. Sophomore
Natalie Peterson (28.10), Hamilton (28.22), Doherty (28.23) and junior
Grace Battista (28.99) also ran in the 200 meters.
Senior
Shannon Marchant was the lone Titan in the 400 meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:00.78.
Freshman
Sydnie Fetherolf ran a time of 2:27.02 in the 800 meter run, while sophomore teammate
Samantha Zakalowski crossed in 2:35.72. Fetherolf also led the Titans in the 1 mile run, finishing with a time of 5:20.27. Senior
Sara Taylor had a time of 5:45.03 in the 1 mile run.
A pair of freshmen led the Titans in the 3,000 meter run.
Taylor Smith placed 10th in 10:56.85, while classmate
Jenny Ponkowski followed in 11th place with a time of 11:00.46. Sophomore
Devon Sutton (11:14.86) and freshman
Sydney Shaw (11:44.27) also ran in the 3,000 meters.
Senior
Hana Hunt competed in the high jump for the Titans, clearing the 1.50 meter height for Detroit. Sophomore
Natalie Peterson had a time of 9.72 in the 60 meter hurdles, Hunt followed in 9.98, sophomore
Paige Anderson crossed in a time of 10.17 and Battista completed the 60 meter hurdles in 10.24.
The Titans placed second in the 4x400 meter relay, crossing the line in 4:03.80.
Detroit next competes on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Harvey-Simmons Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet is set to start at 11 a.m.
