AURORA, Ohio (10/6/2015) -- Senior
Wil Wittmann had his best round and tournament of the fall campaign as the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team claimed ninth at the CSU Invitational on Tuesday.
Detroit recorded a season-best 892 (293-311-288) at the Par 72 7,138-yard Barrington Country Club in Aurora, Ohio. Detroit did save its best for last as two players shot under par and the Titans finished with a season-low 288 on the final 18 holes.
Wittmann tied for 18th with a season-best 219 (72-77-70), his 14th career top-20 effort. He had 14 pars and three birdies on the final 18. Senior
Aaron Knutson was the other player under par in the final round firing a 2-under 70, knocking in five birdies and 10 pars
Sophomore
Eric Macrow made his season debut and shared 29th, tying his career low with a 222 (72-77-73), while junior
Kyle Gaines tied for 41st with a 225 (74-76-75).
The Titans will wrap up the fall season by competing in the Dayton Flyer Invitational from Oct. 19-20.

BEST TEAM SCORE SINCE 2013- The Titans posted a season-low 892 in the tournament, the best team score since tallying an 869 at the 2013 CSU Invitational.
WITTMANN'S BACK- Wil Wittmann registered his first top-20 finish of the season and the 14th of his career in tying for 18th.
- His 219 was his lowest score since carding a 216 at the 2015 Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
- His 2-under 70 on the final round was also his best mark since tallying back-to-back 69's at the 2015 Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
- With his opening round score of even-par 72 and his final round 2-under 70, he now has 14 rounds in his career in which he has attained par or better.
- He led the team with 39 pars, tied for the fourth most in the tournament, while also adding seven birdies.
- Wittmann led the team in Par 3 (Even, 3.00) and Par 5 (-3, 4.75) scoring average, finishing in the top 10 among the competitors on the course's short holes.
MACROW MAKES ANOTHER DEBUT AT CLEVELAND- Eric Macrow made his collegiate debut at the CSU Invitational last year, and he made his season debut in the event this season.
- His 222 tied a career best with the 222 he had at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
- His even-par 72 in round one matched his career low for the third time in his career.
- His nine birdies was tied for the team lead and he also had 31 pars.
HIGH GAINES- Junior Kyle Gaines just missed tying his season low by just one stroke with a 225.
- He did tie for the team lead with nine birdies and added 28 pars.
- Gaines has now carded a score in the 70's in all nine rounds in the fall.
WHAT A ROUND FOR AARON- Aaron Knutson made his season debut and ended in grand style with a 2-under 70 on the final 18.
- The 70 was his best score since tallying a 67 at the 2013 CSU Invitational.
THOMPSON'S 70'S- David Thompson recorded another pair of rounds in the 70's with a 75 in the first and a 78 in the second.
- He has now posted a score in the 70's in eight of his nine rounds on the season.
WRAP-UP- "I saw a lot of progress and we definitely showed signs of our potential. It was nice to see Wil (Wittmann) play more like Wil.
