AVON, Ind. (3/24/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team took five strokes off its first round score as the Titans concluded the Butler Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
The event was hosted by Butler at the Par 71, 5,885-yard Prestwick Country Club.
Detroit took sixth in the tournament with a 659 (332-327) as it improved its team score by five shots from round one. The Bulldogs won the title with a 615.
"I thought we played better today, especially the sophomores," said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. "We need to play more consistent, but we are improving,"
Sophomore
Sarah Thompson was the top Titan finishing just outside the top 10 with a 160 (80-80), tying for 11th place.
Senior
Olivia Richards was right behind her with a 161 (80-81), sharing 13th for her 25th career top-20 effort.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Alexandra LeBlanc carded a 168 (86-82) to tie for 27th, while sophomore
Sarah Montone shaved seven shots off her first-round tally to shoot an 82 on Tuesday, claiming 34th with a 171 (89-82).
Sophomore
Brooke Sharpe was also better on the final 18 firing an 84 and finishing in a tie for 37th with a 172 (88-84), while senior
Jessica Mallender recorded a 177 (84-93) for 44th.
"It was a good job by Alexandra, Sarah and Brooke to bounce back and lower their scores," said Coach Ryan.
The Titans will return to action next week, April 5-6, as they take part in the IPFW Spring Classic, held at the Pine Valley Country Club.
