TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (4/18/2015) -- Senior
Zeinab Baydoun won the steeplechase Saturday to highlight action as the University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team competed in the final day of the three-day Gibson Invitational at Indiana State.
Overall, Detroit competed in the final two days of the three-day meet, and earned 24.5 points. Top eight finishers earned points at the meet.
Baydoun won over four others in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:40.21. She won the race by more than 40 seconds.
Graduate student
Louisa Coppola finished sixth for the Titans in the 1,500 meter run, earning a time of 4:36.91, her best time of the season. Freshman
Taylor Smith ran a PR in the same event, finishing with a time of 4:58.15.
Junior
Allison Garner placed fifth out of 20 competitors in the 100 meter dash, crossing in a time of 12.16. Freshmen
Brogan Holmes and
Alyson Hamilton followed with times of 12.66 and 12.93, respectively. Garner was 10th in the 200 meter dash at 25.41, while Holmes followed in 12th with a time of 25.71.
Graduate student
Shannon Marchant placed 10th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.70. Freshman
Elizabeth Mullen crossed in a time of 1:00.21 in the event.
Junior
Aisha Potts-Tyre was 11th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.28), while senior
Hana Hunt (16.35) and junior
Grace Battista (16.64) followed for the Titans. Hunt finished ninth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:05.73, while Battista crossed in 1:08.87. Potts-Tyre also led Detroit in the triple jump (11.19m/36' 8.50") and long jump (4.97m/16' 3.75"). Hunt was 10th in the javelin with a throw of 29.36 meters (96' 4").
Freshman
Sydnie Fetherolf was Detroit's top finisher in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:21.44. Sophomore
Samantha Zakalowski had a time of 2:26.89, while junior
Haley Morairty posted a time of 2:33.74 in the 800 meters.
The Titans were seventh in the 4x400 meter relay as the quartet of Hunt, Zakalowski, Mullen and Marchant combined for a time of 3:57.41.
Senior
Lauren Berlin led Detroit in the discus, reaching 36.26 meters (118' 11") and freshman
Delaney O'Rourke earned a PR at 33.46 meters (109' 9").
Detroit has one more weekend of the regular season, competing in two different meets next week. The Titans will have competitors at the Hillsdale Relays and Drake Relays next weekend. The Horizon League Outdoor Championships are the following weekend, May 1-3, at Oakland University.
