HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (4/26/2015) -- Sophomore
Sarah Thompson finished in the top three to earn Horizon League All-Tournament accolades as the 54-hole tournament came to an end on Sunday at the Par 72, 6,012-yard Las Colinas Course at the Mission Inn Resort.
Detroit – winners of three of the last five championships – finished seventh overall with a 1002 (337-333-332). Youngstown State won the title with a 926.
Thompson – who was in the top 10 all weekend – carded a 77 on Sunday and finished with a career-best 232 (76-79-77), tying for third place. She had 10 pars and two birdies on Sunday and ended the event with five birdies, tied for the fifth most, and 31 pars, tied for fourth in the field.
It was also her sixth top-10 finish of the season and an improvement from the 244 she shot on the course last year, where she shared 17th.
Senior
Olivia Richards shot an 81 on Sunday and tied for 23rd overall with a 252 (87-84-81). She had nine pars on the day and finished her career second in school history with an 80.03 average, 18 top-10 finishes and 26 top-20 efforts.
Sophomore
Brooke Sharpe claimed 27th with a career-low 256 (87-83-86), while sophomore
Sarah Montone posted a 262 (87-87-88) for 32nd and sophomore
Alexandra LeBlanc was 34th with a 276 (96-90-90).
Detroit will lose three seniors on the squad in Richards,
Jessica Mallender and
Rebecca Mallender, but four of the five starters at the championships were all sophomores.
