FORT WAYNE, Ind. (4/6/2015) -- Sophomore Sarah Thompson carded a career-low 2-over 73 to help lead the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the IPFW Spring Classic on Tuesday.
 
Detroit posted a 627 (321-306) in the two-day event at the Par 71, 6003-yard Pine Valley Country Club. The Titans were on their game in the final round shooting a season-low 306, besting their previous low of 309 in the first round of the Dayton Fall Invitational.
 
"The girls really grinded it out there and they are playing better," said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan." I feel good as we continue to get ready for the Horizon League Championships."
 
Thompson tied for sixth with a 151, just two off her career best, and topped the squad and was tied for third with five birdies in the two rounds. She led all golfers on the Par 3's with a 2.80, -2 average and was tied for ninth on the Par 4's with a 4.39, +8 average.
 
Sophomore Sarah Montone recorded a career-best 156 (81-75), which included her career low round of 75 on the final day. She led the Titans and was tied for third in the event with 21 pars and was tied for fifth on the Par 4's with a team-best 4.39, +7 mark.
 
Senior Olivia Richards (84-76) and sophomore Brooke Sharpe (78-82) shared 23rd with a 160. For Sharpe, it was a career tournament as her 78 in round one a career low as was her 160 score, while Richards was tied for third in the field with a 3.10, +1 average on the Par 3's.
 
The Titans will now get ready for their final tournament of the regular season as they compete in the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational this weekend, April-11-12, hosted by Bowling Green at the Stone Ridge Golf Club.
