DETROIT (2/26/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team heads south for the Wyndham Garden Cougar Classic this weekend, hosted by the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
Detroit will square off with Campbell and Charleston on Saturday, before turning its attention to Radford and South Carolina State on Sunday. Game times are listed below.

Savvy Ferstle leads the team with a .400 batting average and five RBI. She adds a double and a home run, with two runs scored from the heart of the Titans lineup. Junior
Laura Villagrana is batting .280 from the top of the order, followed by
Jordan Manno with three RBI and a team-high three stolen bases.
The ArmsSenior
Christa McGahuey leads the team with five starts in the circle. She is 0-4 with a 5.46 ERA and eight strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched. Freshman
Ashley Mauser is coming off a great performance and is 0-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 14.2 innings.
Keaira Schilling and
Alexis Robison-Kohrs have each tallied more than 11 innings from the rubber, with Schilling leading the pack at 1-1 on the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITIONCampbellThe Camels enter the weekend seeking its first win of the 2016 season at 0-4. The team was outscored 40-10 in four games at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.
Taesha DuBoise leads the team with a .667 batting average, two stolen bases and adds two walks. Lizabeth McCurry has a team-high three RBIs and is batting .200. She also has one homerun and five total bases. In the circle, Katie Baker has a team-high five strikeouts with an 8.56 ERA. She has logged nine innings and walked 15 batters so far.
CharlestonSenior outfielder Rebecca Mueller leads the Cougars in batting average (.448), hits (13), RBI (7) and slugging percentage (.586), while junior infielder Dana Horgan leads the team in walks (9) and is tied for second in RBI (5). Defensively, junior Samantha Martin continues to show her veteran presence, having started five of the Cougars' nine games, and has posted a 3.25 ERA overall. She also has 25 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched.
RadfordRadford won its final three games in Jacksonville's Dolphin Invitational, shutting out the host team, rallying past Georgetown and earning a walk-off victory over Pittsburgh. Abby Morrow notched each of the wins in the circle, recording 15 strikeouts while walking just one batter. She allowed just eight hits over 18 innings in her final three appearances, including a one-hitter against Jacksonville. Offensively, the Highlanders totaled 32 hits, including 10 for extra bases. Summer Robinson and Marissa Gagliano led the way, batting .467 and .429, respectively. Gagliano had three RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Becky Mantel and Marissa Yow each homered and had three RBIs, while Hannah Medlam drove in three runs and Robinson and Casey Burns both had two RBIs.
SC StateThe Bulldogs dropped their opening four games and were outscored 36-3 over the span to Drexel and Gardner-Webb, but bounced back with a pair of wins over Humber in their most recent action. Cianna Burt and Charmaine Oden lead the way offensively, with Burt hitting .438 and Oden connecting at a .300 clip. Keirra Cromer leads the pitching staff with a 7.81 ERA and 1-3 record to go along with four complete games. Unique Whitehurst is 1-1 with an 11.81 ERA in two starts.
ON DECKFollowing the Wyndham Garden Cougar Classic, the Titans return to action Friday, Mar. 4 at the South Florida Tournament in Tampa, Florida. Detroit will play 11 games in the Sunshine State from Mar. 4 through Mar. 12.
