DETROIT (1/13/2018) -- Sophomore
Savannah Lee earned seven victories Saturday afternoon to lead the University of Detroit Mercy women's fencing team at the annual Detroit Mercy Fencing Invitational, hosted by the Titans at Calihan Hall.
Lee, who earned the "Most Improved" honor as a freshman last season, went 7-5 on the day in sabre for the Titans. She was part of a sabre team that recorded 12 victories overall. Lee went 3-0 against Oakland and 2-1 vs. Michigan.
As a team, the Titans finished 1-3, earning a 16-10 victory over Oakland and falling to Wayne State (21-4), Michigan (24-3) and Michigan State (18-9).
Junior
Erica Tessmer, also in sabre, recorded a mark of 5-7 for the Titans, which included a 3-0 record against Michigan State.
In foil, sophomore
Danielle Spencer and newcomer Andrea Sandoval each earned three bout wins for the Titans with each going 2-0 against Oakland. In epee, sophomore
Chanel Lindsay and newcomer Alexandria Zimmerman both picked up a pair of victories, while newcomer Aya El-Mokadam also earned a bout win.
