SOUTH BEND, Ind. (1/29/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's fencing team went against two top-10 teams nationally this weekend, competing against four squads overall at the DeCicco Duals, held on Notre Dame's campus on Saturday.
The Titans fell to Wayne State (24-3), No. 1-ranked Notre Dame (26-1), No. 8 Northwestern (26-1) and Florida (19-8).
Individually, sabre picked up nine victories with junior
Erica Tessmer recording a mark of 5-7 and sophomore
Savannah Lee going 4-8 on the day. Tessmer earned the lone victory against the eighth-ranked Wildcats.
In epee, sophomore
Aya El-Mokadamn earned two bout victories with classmate
Chanel Lindsay adding another victory in the weapon. Lindsay's victory came against top-ranked Notre Dame. Sophomore foilist
Danielle Spencer added a bout win for the Titans.
