Box Score HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY. (5/4/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped a pivotal match-up with conference rival Northern Kentucky University on Friday afternoon.
The Titans are fighting for a bid in the upcoming Horizon League tournament, and with that loss, they will need to win both games in the doubleheader to qualify.
On the day,
Savvy Ferstle had a two-run home run for the Titans, and
Alyssa Lang,
Kori Keyes,
Elizabeth Yager and
Maddy Scarsella all reached base with a single for the red, white and blue.
DETROIT MERCY 2 – NORTHERN KENTUCKY 5
The Norse struck first in the crucial conference match-up, capitalizing off of an error by the Titans to go up 1-0 in the bottom of the second.
The Titans immediately responded, when in the top of the third inning Ferstle roped a home run over the left field fence to give the red, white and blue their first lead of the game, 2-1.
Northern Kentucky answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the third, making the score 4-2.
The Norse then added another run in the bottom of the fourth, bringing the Titans deficit to 5-2.
Ashley Mauser took the loss on the mound, tossing six innings while scattering seven hits, five runs (four earned), two walks and two strikeouts.

The Titans will play a doubleheader against the Norse tomorrow, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
