Manal Shaito earned a mark of 19-5 over the weekend as the University of Detroit Mercy women's fencing team competed Saturday and Sunday at the Army West Point and Vassar Duals, respectively, in New York.
Detroit Mercy went 2-5 on Saturday with wins coming over Cleveland State (16-11) and Hunter College (17-3). The Titans dropped dual match-ups with Army, Navy, Stevens Institute of Technology, CCNY and Drew University in West Point, N.Y. The red, white and blue dropped both meetings with Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Sunday.
Shaito had went unbeaten against Navy, Cleveland State, CCNY and Hunter College. She had at least two bout victories against each opponent she faced throughout the weekend. Also in foil, Spencer tallied seven bout wins for the Titans.
Junior
Savannah Lee had 11 victories in sabre to help lead the weapon. Freshman newcomer
Courtney Tessmer had a strong weekend with nine bout wins, going 2-0 against Navy, 2-1 vs. CCNY and two more triumphs over Vassar. Newcomer
Justine Hickey earned six triumphs as sabre tallied 26 overall over the weekend.
Alex Zimmerman picked up four victories for the Titans in epee.
Detroit Mercy returns to fencing Saturday, traveling to Notre Dame for the DeCicco Duals from South Bend, Ind.
