EVANSTON, Ill. (2/3/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's fencing team was in action Sunday at the Northwestern Duals and went head-to-head with six other fencing programs from around the country. The Titans went 0-6 on the day as a squad.
Detroit Mercy went against three squads that are receiving votes in the most recent CollegeFencing360.com Women's Coaches Poll. The Titans dropped all three to UC-San Diego (27-0), Stanford (25-2) and North Carolina (23-4). The Titans also fell to Incarnate Word (14-9), Farleigh Dickinson (13-11) and Cal Tech (19-8).
Freshman foilist
Manal Shaito led the Titans with a 9-8 record on the day. Junior
Danielle Spencer earned three victories for Detroit Mercy in foil. In sabre, the Titans also had 12 victories with junior
Savannah Lee earning seven victories and freshman
Justine Hickey picking up five bout wins.
Senior
Alex Zimmerman earned two bout triumphs for the red, white and blue in epee.
