FORT WAYNE, Ind. (4/2/2019) -- Sophomore
Alexa Hatz defended her first-round lead by extending it to four strokes as she won her first collegiate tournament in the Mastodon Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
The win was the first by a Titan since 2016 as she led Detroit Mercy to a second place finish with a 634 (323-311) at the Par 71, 5,966-yard Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne.Â
Hatz posted a 5-over 76 for the second-straight round for her career-best 152 as she won by four shots over two Green Bay golfers. She also led the event with 25 pars and was consistent in all facets finishing second in the field in par 3 (+1, 3.13), par 4 (+8, 4.36) and par 5 (+1, 5.17) scoring average.Â
Sophomore
Kendall Payne tied for 11th with a 160 (81-79), while redshirt sophomore
Julia Shaw shared 13th with a career-tying 162 (83-79).Â
Senior
Katelyn Henry and sophomore
Shana Murphy each tied for 16th after registering a 164.Â
Detroit Mercy will have one final tune-up before the Horizon League Championship as the Titans will play at Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational this weekend, Apr. 6-7.Â
