DETROIT (8/1/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball program and head coach
Bernard Scott officially announced the transfer of forward
Maxine Moore (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) to the squad on Thursday. Moore spent her freshman season with Western Michigan University in 2018-19. She'll join the squad at the start of the new school year.
"Maxine is a young lady that we recruited hard out of high school," head coach
Bernard Scott said. "She's a player that plays with a lot of intensity on both ends of the court and has the ability to score inside and outside. She's going to add more experience to our post position. We're thrilled to have Maxine returning home and joining the Titan family!"
Moore played in 29 of 30 games for the Broncos in 2018-19, making one start and averaged 4.1 points and 2.1 rebounds, while shooting 44.1 percent from the field. She was named the team's Sixth Player of the Year following the season. Moore also shot 39.1 percent from behind the 3-point line and twice scored in double figures, scoring a career-high 11 points two times. She averaged 10.6 minutes per game in her first season and also finished third on the team in blocks with seven.
In high school, Moore helped Detroit Country Day to three Class B state championships (2015, '17, '18) and a 96-11 record overall as a four-year starter and three-time All-State player. She was named one of the Top-20 players in the state by the Detroit Free Press during her senior season. Moore averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds in high school and was selected as a First Team All-State honoree by the Detroit News during her senior season. She was a team captain along with graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Moore will join a new-look Detroit Mercy team that features five new freshmen and two transfers in
Nicole Johanson and
Aly Reiff.
