DETROIT (3/1/2020) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the 2020 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday, March 1 and would leave the state of Ohio with several medals and school records.
Senior sprinter
Kyri Jackson set two school records as her 8.61 first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles broke the near fifteen-year mark set by Jennifer Frierson back in 2005 – as well as her own fourth-place all-time mark set at the beginning of the year. She would also finish fifth in the 200-meter dash with a school-record time of 24.81, nestling right up to another school record set by Shireese Statin in 2000. Jackson also placed third in the long jump (5.72m) and seventh in the 60m dash (7.85) for the Titans.
After the two-day meet at Youngstown State, the red, white and blue finished in fifth place as a team with 47.5 points scored after 17 events, recording several top-five finishes.
Senior thrower
Brynne Gustafson continued her standout 2020 campaign with another second-place finish in the weight throw with a score of 16.56 meters. Freshman
Micah Carey placed fifth in the triple jump with a score of 11.23m. Carey was also eighth in the long jump for the Titans.
Alexandra Sinani also was eighth in the pole vault (3.45m) for Detroit Mercy.
