KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (3/2/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team ended its season opener with its low round of the event as the Titans concluded play at the Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday.
The Titans tallied a 314 in the final round - with three golfers shooting in the 70's - and tied for 35th overall with a 957 (319-324-314) in one of the largest tournaments in the country with 41 teams and 210 competitors at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Cougar Point and Oak Point courses. The 957 was just outside of the top 10 marking the 11th best 54-hole score in school history.

Alexa Hatz led the way tying for 83rd with a 233 (79-78-76) as she lowered her score for the third-straight day. She started her final round with pars on eight of her nine holes and added two birdies on the back nine. Overall, she led the team with six birdies and was second with 29 pars.

Shana Murphy tied for 139th with a 239 (76-82-81) as she knocked in 11 pars with a birdie in her final round and four birdies and a team-high 32 pars in the tournament.

Kendall Payne had her best round with a 78, registering two birdies and 11 pars, and ended tied for 150th with a 241 (81-82-78), while senior
Julia Shaw shared 164th totaling a 244 (83-82-79).
Detroit Mercy will be back in action in a few weeks when the red, white and blue travel to Mobile, Alabama, for the Bama Beach Bash from Mar. 19-21.
