UNION, Ky. (3/30/2021) -- Senior Alexa Hatz made a run at a title and seniors Shana Murphy and Kendall Payne finished in the top 10 as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team concluded NKU's The Julie on Tuesday.

The event was held at the par 72, 5,878-yard Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Kentucky, with Detroit Mercy placing third with a 618 (309-309), one shot out of second place.

Hatz tied for second with a career-best 147 (73-74) as she carded a 2-over 74 on her final 18. She started the day three shots in back of first as she parred eight of her first 10 holes and then moved one shot behind the leader with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16. 

Overall, she led the team with six birdies - tied for second overall in the event - and was second on the squad with 22 pars. She was also second in the field in Par 3 (+1, 3.10) and Par 5 (-1, 4.90) scoring in registering her second career top-10 effort.

Murphy and Payne tied for ninth with a 155, a career-low for Murphy and tying a career-best for a 36-hole event for Payne. 

Payne started the day slow with a double bogey on her first hole and a quadruple bogey on six, but she then went on a tear parring holes seven and eight and then knocking in four-straight birdies and adding two more pars and a birdie to finish the final round with a 4-over 76. She tied for second on the team and sixth in the tournament with five birdies and tied for second on the team with 21 pars in posting her second career top-10 finish. 

Murphy began the day tied for second just three shots off the lead as she posted 10 pars for her first career top-10 tournament. She also led the team with 22 pars in the event.

Senior Julia Shaw claimed 23rd with a 163 (84-79) as she recorded 12 pars in the final round, including seven in a row at one point, while senior Elle Greenlee tied for 25th with a 166 (86-80) as she had nine pars and two birdies in her final round to tie her career-low. 

The final event of the regular season will take place next week as the team travels to Bowling Green to compete in the Dolores Black Falcon Invite, April 10-11.
