DETROIT (8/4/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf program has had a busy week on the course as a couple of current players and alums have represented the red, white and blue in championship fashion.
Last week, alum
Brendan Leonard '14 staged an unbelievable comeback to win the Mackenzie Investments Open, the first tournament on the 2021 Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada schedule. He was tied for third and five shots out of first to start the final round, but he birdied three of his final holes, including 17 and 18, to win by two strokes with a 9-under 279 (70-70-71-68) on the Par 72 at the Club de Golf Le Blainvillier in Blainville, Quebec.
A couple of current Titans have also done well on the course in senior
James Hill and sophomore
Alek Mauro.
Hill just competed and tied for 28th at the 100th GAM Championship at Franklin Hills Country Club as he shot a 9-over 220 (72-73-75). He earned a spot in the prestigious tournament by winning a qualifying event at Forest Akers West Golf Club in East Lansing with a 2-under 69.
Hill will be looking to defend his title at the Western Ontario Men's Amateur Golf Championship this weekend. He is also set to play in the Ontario Men's Amateur.
Mauro just competed in the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship and posted a top-70 effort with a 223 (72-75-76).
