BATAVIA, Ohio (4/6/2026) -- It was a banner Monday for the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team as a pair of Titans are in the lead, as well as tying for the team top spot after the first 36 holes of NKU's Jewell Invitational. 

UDM shot a 572 (287-285) and is tied for first with IU Indy at the par 71, 6,845-yard Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio. Detroit Mercy started with a 3-over 287 and ended the day with a season-best 1-over 285 as the Titans and Jaguars will head into the final 18 holding a six-stroke lead over Oakland. 

Graduate senior Bavake Sihota (70-70) and junior Mason Sokolowski (68-72) are both tied for first with a 2-under 140, two ahead of third place. 

Sokolowski began the event with nine pars and a birdie in his first 10 holes and ended the round with three birdies and four pars to tie his career best with a 3-under 68. He then came back to knock in three more birdies and 11 pars in the afternoon for a 1-over 72. 

Sihota carded a 1-under 70 in both rounds, posting 13 pars and three birdies on the opening 18 and 11 pars, three birdies, and an eagle in round two. 

Another Titan is also in the mix for medalist honors as sophomore Ethan Oblak is three shots behind his teammates, sharing fourth overall with a 143 (74-69). After tallying 11 pars and two birdies for a 3-over 74 in round one, he was on fire in round two, recording a career-best 2-under 69 with 10 pars and five birdies. He finished in style with four birdies and eight pars in his final 12 holes to stay in contention. 

The final round of the event will tee off at 9:00 a.m., as UDM aims for its first team championship since 2015 and its first individual title since 2022.
