Men's Golf Opens Spring Season In Orlando

DETROIT (2/27/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team will escape the cold weather for a few days as the Titans begin the championship spring season at the Orlando Invitational.

The two-day, three-round event is co-hosted by a pair of Horizon League rivals in Oakland and Cleveland State and will be held on the site of the HL Championship at the Mission Inn Resort's Par 72, 7,015-yard El Campeon Golf Course.

The first two rounds will start on Monday at 7:45 a.m. with assigned tee times, while the final 18 will tee off on Tuesday at 7:45. Fans can follow all the action with live scoring by clicking here.

The field includes the host Vikings and Golden Grizzlies, Bellarmine, Purdue Fort Wayne, Green Bay, IUPUI, Mount St. Mary's, NKU, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, Wright State and Youngstown State. 

Detroit Mercy played in four fall events with its best showing claiming a share of fourth at the Valpo Fall Invite with an 897. 

Senior Anthony Occhiuto led the team in the fall with a 73.73 average, while sophomore Alek Mauro was second tallying a 74.36 mark. Senior James Hill was third at 75.64 and recorded the lone top-10 finish for the red, white and blue tying for 10th at Valpo with a 219.

The event is the first of four spring events on the docket before the league championships in late April.
