BATAVIA, Ohio (3/29/2022) -- Graduate senior
Alexa Hatz led four Titans in the top 20 as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team earned third place at NKU's The Julie on Tuesday.
The Titans shaved 15 shots off their first-round score to post a 317 on the day for a 649 (332-317) total at the par 71, 6,053-yard Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio. They also totaled 83 pars for the third-most in the event, one less than second-place NKU.
Hatz tied for seventh with a 157 (78-79) as she had 11 pars on the day and a team-high 23 in the event, the second-most in the competition. She was tied for third on the par 3's with a +2, 3.25 average and tied for seventh on the par 5's with a +2, 5.33 average as she registered her sixth career top-10 event.
Graduate senior
Shana Murphy placed 12th with a 161 (82-79) - her fifth career top-20 finish - as she started the day with a birdie and also had 10 pars, with 17 total in the 36 holes. She was also the fourth-best golfer on the par 4's (+7, 4.32 average).
Graduate senior
Kendall Payne tied for 13th with a 162 (84-78), while junior
Shae Zydeck shared 19th with a 170 (89-81). Payne had four pars and two birdies in her first six holes for her 11th top-20 finish and Zydeck posted 11 pars en route to her first-ever top-20 tournament.
Sophomore
Sophia Ubaydi was just outside the top 20 as she tied for 24th with a 172 (88-84) as she had eight pars and a birdie in the final round, and was also tied for third in the event with a +1, 5.17 average on the par 5's.
The Titans will have one more tournament to get ready for the Horizon League Championships as the red, white and blue compete in Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invite from April 8-9.
