Taryn Peru continued her hot hitting at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI while graduate student
Liz Murphy picked up her second complete game win in the circle tossing 7.0 innings with two strikeouts as Detroit Mercy held off Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-2, in #HLSB series opening action on Friday.
The Titans racked up nine total hits as senior
Taylor Gauthier went 2-for-4 with a run scored while graduate student
Leena Mortensen went for 1-for-3 with a double. Senior
McKenna Tanguay and junior
Jordan Hazel also each went 1-for-3 while junior
Jordyn Chapman had a run scored, drew two walks and went 1-for-1 at the plate.
Senior
Piper Roth added the eventual game-winning run off a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to score pinch runner
Kara Erickson.
Recap:
• Detroit Mercy (2-29, 2-14 HL) had three hits in the first inning but left the bases loaded
• Peru delivered a two-run single to score Tanguay and Chapman for a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning
• Purdue Fort Wayne (6-29, 5-10 HL) got a run back off an RBI single in the bottom half to pull within 2-1.
• After a lead-off single from Peru, Mortensen hit a double to get runners in scoring position. Roth added a sacrifice fly to score Erickson moving the Titans ahead 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning
• Murphy kept the Dons at bay in the fifth in sixth inning
• PFW got the bases loaded with two outs and added a RBI single. Murphy got the last batter to fly out to left field leaving the bases loaded to secure the Titans second win of the season
Detroit Mercy and Purdue Fort Wayne will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 16 beginning at noon.
