Tanguay hits three-run home run, Paver adds first career home run, Warrington picks up first career win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (4/16/22) - Senior McKenna Tanguay belted a three-run home run going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored while senior Liz Paver added a two-run shot for her first career home run to lead Detroit Mercy to a 11-10 game one win at Purdue Fort Wayne to claim the team's first #HLSB series of the season. Junior Olivia Warrington picked up her first career win in the circle tossing 1.1 innings in relief with two strikeouts while graduate student Liz Murphy picked up her first save of the season going 3.0 innings allowing only one run with a pair of strikeouts. The Mastodons took the nightcap, 2-0.

Every batter in the lineup contributed to the Titans posting a season-high in runs (11), hits (12) and RBI (10). Senior Taryn Peru went 2-for-4 with a run while senior Taylor Gauthier, senior Piper Roth, freshman Jaiden Lara, junior Jordan Hazel and junior Jordyn Chapman each recorded a hit, RBI and run scored with graduate student Leena Mortensen adding a hit and run.

Game 1:
• Detroit Mercy (3-30, 3-14 HL) posted eight runs on seven hits in the third inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead
• After Peru scored off a throwing error with the bases loaded, Lara, Hazel, Chapman and Gauthier each hit four consecutive RBI singles
• Tanguay then cleared the bases with her three-run homer
• Purdue Fort Wayne (7-30, 6-11 HL) cut the lead in half with four runs in the bottoms of the third
• Paver's two-run shot put the Titans ahead 10-4 in the fourth
• PFW once again responded with three runs in the bottom half to trail 10-7
• Roth reached on a fielder's choice to plate Tanguay in the fifth for a 11-7 lead
• The Dons pulled cut the deficit to 11-9 with a two run home run in the fifth inning
• After PFW cut the lead to a run at 11-10 off a double and throwing error, the next batter reached on another throwing error. However, the Titans were able to recover on the play and gunned down the game-tying run at the plate
• Murphy then got the second out via a strikeout. After a single moved another potential game-tying runner to third base, she got the final batter to fly out to left field leaving two runners stranded.

Game 2:
• PFW recoded the game's only runs with a pair in the second inning off a RBI double and single
• Murphy went the distance going 6.0 innings with four strikeouts
• Peru, Roth and Chapman each recorded a hit
