Detroit Mercy Drops Doubleheader to UIC

Tanguay hits two home runs, Morrow records first career hit

DETROIT (4/23/22) - Senior McKenna Tanguay belted two home runs going 2-for-5 on the day with three RBI, two runs scored and eight total bases as Detroit Mercy dropped a doubleheader to visiting UIC, 4-1 and 13-3 on Saturday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. Junior Renee Trotman recorded an RBI double while sophomore Keira Morrow recorded her first career hit in game two. Junior Jordyn Chapman and senior Piper Roth also each recorded a hit. 

Game 1:
• UIC (8-26, 5-12 HL) got on the board with a RBI single in the first inning 
• The Flames added a second run on a RBI single in the third inning 
• Tanguay's solo home run over the right field fence in the fourth inning broke up a no-hitter and pulled Detroit Mercy (4-32, 4-17 HL) within a run at 2-1
• UIC then added two runs off a RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 4-1

Game 2:
Liz Murphy got out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning
• UIC got their first run off a throwing error followed by a RBI double to take a 2-0 lead
• Tanguay hit a two-run shot for her second home run of the day in the third inning pulling the Titans within a run at 3-2
• Trotman added an RBI double in the fourth inning to score Taryn Peru tying the game at 3-3
• The Flames added a RBI single followed by a two-run homer to plate three runs in the fourth inning
• UIC then broke the game open with three consecutive home runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 9-3 lead
• The Flames added four more runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by a three-run double 

Detroit Mercy hits the road for a #HLSB series at Northern Kentucky starting on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
