DETROIT (5/4/22) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team heads to Oakland University for the third and final time during the outdoor season, this time for the 2022 Horizon League Outdoor Championships May 6-8.
Detroit Mercy will send 35 athletes to the championships.
What To Watch For
Daniel Lanfear will compete in the High Jump this weekend after posting a personal record jump of 2.08 meters last week at Concordia. He will continue his quest for the 2.10 meter mark this weekend. His 2.08 meter jump is second best in the Horizon League during the outdoor season.
Dante Bassham and
Elijah Major will compete in a team best four events during the championships. Each will run the 100-Meter, 200-Meter, the 4x100 Relay, and the 4x400 Relay. Bassham's 10.73 second time at the Bison Outdoor Classic is ninth best in the Horizon League while his 21.89 time in the 200-Meter is also ninth in the conference. Both times are personal records for Bassham. Major's 21.92 seconds in the 200-Meter sits 10th in the Horizon League this season, which he accomplished at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
The 4x100 Relay has set the school record twice during the outdoor season while claiming three wins. The relay order will go
Bonanza Cummings,
Elijah Major,
Dante Bassham, and
Aquari Walker. This lineup set the school record at 41.05 seconds and is also the top time in the Horizon League.
John Paul Terzano holds the Titans' Javelin Throw record of 52.31 meters which is seventh in the Horizon League.
