DETROIT (8/23/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country and track and field team has announced eight roster additions for the 2022-23 season.
Joining the Titans will be
Troy Cranford, Devin Grantham, Raeed Monnan, Joshua Otten, Antonio Romano, Francis Senter, Antonio Talley and
Anthony Yip with Otten and Romano also suiting up in cross country.
"The class of 2026 will help keep the program on the path built by the departing seniors who took us up to the great 2022 finish," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Guy Murray '89. "This group is heavy in the long sprints and mid-distance that we were a bit short on the past couple of years and definitely has the potential to contribute immediately this year."
Troy Cranford * Sprints * Romulus, Mich. * Romulus
- A four-year letter winner at Romulus
- Won a Division 2 200-meter title running 22.84 into a 9.9mps headwind and was also third in the 100-m as a junior
- All-State as. senior in the 100m, while claiming third in the 400m and fifth in the 200m
- Ran club with Maximum Output and participated in the Junior Olympics
Devin Grantham * Sprints * Westland, Mich. * Detroit Jesuit
- Lettered in basketball and track
- Tabbed All-State in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 and helped the 4x100 and 4x200 to a state championship as a senior
- Helped his team to a Catholic League title in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 as a senior as well as a team state championship
- Ran club with the Michigan Accelerators and was an All-American at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in the 4x200
Raeed Monnan * Jumps/Sprints * Troy, Mich. * Troy Athens
- A multi-letter winner in track and field
- Was a regional champion in the high jump as a senior and was also the Team MVP in jumps
- A two-time Scholar-Athlete award recipient
Joshua Otten * Distance * Dimondale, Mich. * Lansing Catholic
- Lettered in soccer, cross country and track and field
- Was All-State in cross country as a senior, helping his team to third place
- In track, was All-State on the first-place 4x400-meter relay as well as the 400m finishing second, 1,600-meters taking third and helping the 4x800-meter relay to runner-up with the 4x400m victory leading his team to win a Division 3 state title
Antonio Romano * Mid-Distance * Walled Lake, Mich. * Walled Lake Central
- Lettered in soccer, cross country and track and field
- Was All-Conference and All-Region in track and field and holds the school record in the 800-meters
- Won the 800m at the Division 1 regionals as a junior and finished ninth at the state championships
- Helped the 4x400-meter relay to a victory at the regionals and was a D1 state qualifier as a senior in the 800m
Francis Senter * Jumps * Linden, Mich. * Lake Fenton
- Lettered in basketball and track and field
- A state qualifier in the high jump as a senior in his first year of track and field
Antonio Talley * Sprints * New Boston, Mich. * New Boston Huron
- Lettered in football and track and field
- Earned the Most Improved player in 2021 and was the team MVP in 2022
- First Team All-League in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dash as well as the 4x400-meter relay
- Helped the 4x200 to a school record and ran the second fastest 200m time in school history at 49.9
- Ran club with Maverick and was a gold medalist in the 400 and a Junior Olympic qualifier in the 4x400m
Anthony Yip * Throws * Troy, Mich. * Troy Athens
- A multi-year letter winner in track and field
- Named the Most Improved player as a junior and garnered team MVP honors as a senior
- A Division I regional medalist in the discus taking seventh place
