ELON, NC (3-7-23) - Sophomore
Jaiden Lara hit 1-for-3 belting her first home run of the season as Detroit Mercy kicked off their Spring Break road swing with a 9-1 setback at Elon on Tuesday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.
Recap:
• Elon got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer
• Senior
Jordyn Chapman reached second base of an error and fielder's choice in the bottom of the second inning but could not get across.
• The Phoenix added an unearned run in the third inning off an error and then posted four more runs off four hits in the bottom of the third to take a 7-0 lead
• Lara crushed her first homer of the year over the left-center field wall getting the Titans on the board at 7-1.
• Sophomore
Chloe Spitzer entered the circle in relief and got out of a bases-loaded jam only allowing one run in the bottom of the fourth as the Titans trailed 8-1.
• Freshman
Jenna Holt reached on an error and advanced to second on the throw but was left stranded in the top of the fifth inning.
• The Phoenix added their second unearned run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game.
Detroit Mercy travels to North Carolina A&T State for a doubleheader on Wed., March 8 at noon and 2:30 p.m.
