
GREENSBORO, NC (3-8-23) - For the second consecutive day, sophomore
Jaiden Lara hit a home run as her two-run shot proved to be the difference propelling Detroit Mercy to a 4-2 win at North Carolina A&T State earning a doubleheader split on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Aggies Softball Complex. Sophomore
Chloe Spitzer posted her second complete game of the season allowing only two runs on five scattered hits with four strikeouts while tossing 110 pitches in the winning effort. The Titans were edged in game one, 3-1.
Senior
Jordyn Chapman went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored followed by freshman
Trinity Fessler who hit 2-for-2 with a run scored and walk. Senior
Kara Wolfbauer also went 1-for-2 while freshman
Alison Donaugh picked up an RBI off a sacrifice fly.
Game 2 Recap:
• The Aggies got on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead.
• Fessler recorded Detroit Mercy's first hit of the game in the fourth inning.
• Chapman led off the top of the fifth inning with a double. Freshman
Jenna Holt came on to pinch run and was moved over to third by a sac bunt by Wolfbauer. Donaugh delivered a sac fly scoring Holt to tie the game at 1-1.
• Fessler got her second hit of the game followed by Lara who belted a two-run shot giving the Titans a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
• The Aggies scratched across a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Junior
Maddy Heilner made a nice grab in left field preventing the tying run from scoring to end the inning with the Titans ahead 3-2.
• Chapman and Wolfbauer opened the seventh inning with singles. After a sac bunt moved the runners over, Chapman scored on a passed ball moving to Titans ahead 4-2.
• Spitzer was able to close out the Aggies in the bottom half of the seventh to seal the win.

Game 1 Recap:
• Detroit Mercy got two hits in the top of the second inning to put runners in scoring position but could get them across
• The Titans left the bases loaded off three walks in the top of the third inning but couldn't add their first run of the game.
• The Aggies got a run across on a sac fly in the bottom of the third inning but the Titans turned a key double play to get out of the inning.
• The Titans were knocking on the door once again with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth drawing another three walks in an inning for a second time but could not get a run across.
• Detroit Mercy finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning. Senior
Renee Trotman doubled to right-center. Holt pinch-ran and scored off a fielding error.
• The Aggies came back adding two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off a triple and stolen base
• Both teams got nothing across in the sixth inning
• Titans couldn't cut into the deficit in their final at-bat and finished the game with nine runners left on base.
Detroit Mercy travels to Campbell for a three-game series starting on Fri., March 10 at 4 p.m.
