Alison Donaugh posted an impressive performance at the plate going 4-for-8 overall while hitting 3-for-4 with a home run and single to account for three RBI in game one of Metro Series doubleheader action as Detroit Mercy was edged 7-5 in eight innings to arch-rival Oakland. In game two, sophomore
Jaiden Lara hit her team-best fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot as the Titans fell 8-2 in the nightcap. For the series, Donaugh went 6-for-11 with a home run and double.
Senior
Allison Smith also hit 2-for-4 with a two-run single in game one that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Senior
Kara Wolfbauer hit 3-for-7 overall and 2-for-4 in game two followed by Junior
Ryann Glenn went a perfect 3-for-3. Freshman
Jenna Holt also posted a hit with a run scored while freshmen
Trinity Fessler and
Rusti Glenn and junior
Maddy Heilner each scored a run.
Game 1 Recap:
• Oakland (12-12, 8-4 HL) got on the board first with a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning
• The Golden Grizzlies add a solo home run to move ahead 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
• Detroit Mercy's (3-26, 2-12 HL) got on the board with Donaugh's solo shot in the bottom half of the fourth.
• Donaugh delivered again with an RBI single to score Fessler followed by Smith who connected on a two-run single to score Heilner and freshman
Rusti Glenn pulling Detroit Mercy within a run at 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
• With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Donaugh hit a high fly ball that the Oakland center fielder lost in the sun that dropped into play allowing Holt to score tying the game at 5-5 to force extra innings.
• However, the Golden Grizzlies sealed the deal in the top of the eighth inning with a two-run homer which was their third of the game for the 7-5 win.
Game 2 Recap:
• Oakland took a 1-0 lead off a solo home run in the top of the second inning
• The Golden Grizzlies add a pair of home runs in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0.
• OU added a solo homer in the fifth inning followed by an RBI single and two-run double in the sixth to lead 7-0
• Lara hit her two-run shot in the bottom half of the sixth as the Titans trailed 7-2.
• Oakland then added a school-record fifth home run of the game in the top of the seventh inning. The Golden Grizzlies finished the series with 10 total home runs having only had three on the season entering the mid-week series against the Titans.
Detroit Mercy has a quick turn-a-round as they open a #HLSB series against Northern Kentucky beginning on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m.
