HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (4/22/2024) -- Junior
Ariel Chang put together a string of pars en route to All-Tournament honors as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team concluded the Horizon League Championship on Monday.
Chang carded a 4-over 77 to finish in a tie for third at 233 (77-79-77), her 14th career top-10 finish, and that earned her Horizon League All-Tournament accolades after she just missed last season when she tied for sixth.
She was 4-over through her first seven holes, but then made seven-straight pars and played the front nine an even-par to take home the honor. Chang led the field with 34 total pars and added a team-best four birdies and was fourth on the par 5's (E, 5.00) and tied for eighth on the par 3's (+3, 3.25) and par 4's (+11, 4.41).
Chang finished the year with a 76.47 average - tied for fourth in school history - as her 76.0 mark last year gave her the school record. Her career average of 75.80 would also be tops in school history, but is just four rounds shy of the 50-round qualifying mark.
Sophomore
Taylor Kondel tied for 25th with a 251 (80-84-87) as she posted 10 pars on the day, while sophomore
Kyla Charlebois was 33rd at a 262 (90-87-85), knocking in a birdie with five pars.
Senior
Sophia Ubaydi recorded a 266 (92-89-85) as she wrapped up her Titan career with seven pars, lowering her total in every round.
UDM placed eighth overall, totaling 1006 (339-333-334) at the par 73, 6,127-yard El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.
