ROCHESTER, Mich. (4-9-24) - Junior
Jaiden Lara broke up a no-hit bid in the top of the fifth inning as Detroit Mercy fell at arch-rival Oakland 10-0 in the Metro Series opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Oakland Softball Field.
With two outs, Lara hit a ball up the middle to break up a no-hit bid by Oakland ace pitcher Sydney Campbell.
Recap:
• Oakland got on the board first with a two-run home run and RBI single to lead 3-0.
• Junior
Amanda Schick was the first base runner for the Titans as she reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the third inning. However, she was later thrown out on a fielder's choice followed by a ground out to end the inning.
• Sophomore
Trinity Fessler reached on an error in the top of the fourth inning but was also thrown out at second base off a fielder's choice by junior
Jordan Kavanaugh.
• The Golden Grizzlies added seven runs (six unearned) aided by four UDM errors in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-0 lead.
• Lara's base hit in the top of the fifth gave UDM its third baserunner. However, she was left stranded on a ground out to end the game.
Detroit Mercy and Oakland will conclude the Metro Series with a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 10 at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
