DETROIT (5/2/24) – The Detroit Mercy softball team closes out the 2024 season with a home #HLSB series against Green Bay. The Titans and Phoenix open with a single game on Friday, May 3 at noon followed by a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday, May 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Buysse Ballpark.

Senior Day Salute:
Before the doubleheader on Saturday, the Titans will honor the lone graduate student Olivia Warrington for her hard work and dedication to the program.
 
Holt Earns Valeo #HLSB All-Academic Team Honorable Mention:
Detroit Mercy softball outfielder Jenna Holt was named Valeo Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team Honorable Mention as voted on by each member institution's Faculty Athletics Representative and announced by the league office on Thursday (5/2).
 
Holt, a sophomore from Algonac, Mich., holds a 3.95 GPA in Pre-Dentistry and is a Horizon League Honor Roll selection and two-time Detroit Mercy Athletic Director Honor Roll selection.
 
Last Time Out: Fessler Sparks Seventh Inning Rally as the Titans Secure Win Over Northern Kentucky to Earn Doubleheader Spit
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 1 at Northern Kentucky 7 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 5 at Northern Kentucky 4 (Apr. 27)
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning, sophomore Trinity Fessler came up huge hitting a clutch two-run double to tie the game followed by freshman Alexis Hoff's game-winning RBI single giving Detroit Mercy a dramatic 5-4 nightcap win to earn a #HLSB doubleheader split against Northern Kentucky on Saturday at Ignatius Grein Field. The Norse took game one, 7-1. On the day, Fessler went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored while hitting her third home run of the season.
 
Sophomore Jenna Holt went a combined 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, and a walk. Junior Jaiden Lara went 1-for-3 in game one while freshman Jada Davis and junior Jordan Kavanagh each had a hit in the nightcap.
 
Borg in the Books:
Freshman Claire Borg closed the door on the Norse picking up her first career win in the circle tossing 1.1 innings in relief of graduate helping the Titans to a 5-4 win at NKU (4/27). Borg also hit 1-for-3 in both games with an RBI in game two.
 
Fantastic Fessler:
• Fessler leads the team in hits (27), doubles (7), runs (18), walks (19), batting average (.255), slugging percentage (.425), total bases (45), in multi-hit games (5), and games started (41).
• Ranks second in home runs (3), triples (1), at-bats (106) and stolen bases (2).
• In game two of the doubleheader, she hit 1-for-2 with three RBI and two walks while coming up huge hitting a clutch two-run double to tie the game in the seventh inning sparking a 5-4 come-from-behind win against NKU (4/27).
• Overall in the DH, she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored while hitting her third home run of the season.
• Went 3-for-3 with a walk in the first game and drew three walks in game two at IUPUI (4/6).
• Hit 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of runs at North Alabama (3/7).
 
Davis Doing Work:
• Freshman Jada Davis is having quite the season as she leads the team in RBI (14), home runs (5), doubles (7), total bases (45), and at-bats (110).
• Also ranks second in second in hits (21), runs (14), slugging percentage (.409), triples (1), and game starts (41).
• Hit a pair of home runs against PFW (4/20) for her fourth and fifth of the season.
• Connected on her first career home run at MTSU (3/4) which was UDM's first long ball of the season. Followed with a second in the Titans' 6-2 win over CSU (4/14). Her third long ball was a three-run shot against Toledo (4/18).
• Went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored in UDM's 6-2 win over CSU (4/14).
• Recorded her first career hit against WKU (2/24).
• Posted her first career double with a run scored vs Saint Louis (2/24).
 
Holt Holding it Down:
• Has recorded a hit in seven of the last eight games.
• Leads the team in triples (2), stolen bases (4), and sacrifice bunts (3)
• Ranks third in hits (19), runs (10), and average (.218), fourth in walks (8), and slugging percentage (.276), and fifth in total bases (24) and at-bats (87).
• Also ranks second on the team with three multi-hit games and has reached base in seven consecutive games.
• Went a combined 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, and a walk helping Titans to a 5-4 win and DH split at NKU (4/27).
• Hit 2-for-3 against St. Louis (2/24), YSU (3/16) and RMU (4/22).
 
Dynamite Donaugh:
• Donaugh ranks second on the team in slugging percentage (.342), third in home runs (2), total bases (26), and fifth in hits (18).
• She has reached base in seven consecutive games twice this season.
• Her second homer of the season was a three-run shot that sealed UDM's 6-2 win over CSU (4/14).
• Hit 2-for-3 vs EIU (2/25) and 2-for-2 at YSU (3/16).
• During the nine games over Spring Break, she hit .287 with six hits, a home run, a double, and two runs scored.
 
Double Trouble:
• Davis and Fessler lead the team doubles (7) followed by junior Amanda Schick (3), and freshman Alexis Hoff (3).
 
Bring Em' Home:
• Davis leads the team in RBI (14) with Donaugh (9) followed by Schick (7) and Fessler (7) in second and freshman Claire Borg (5) in third.
 
Give Me Three Bags:
• Fessler hit the team's first triple against EIU (2/25) which also was the first of her career.
• Sophomore Jenna Holt hit lead-off triples on consecutive days against MSTU (3/3 & 3/4).
 
Two is Better than One:
Fessler (6) leads the team in multi-hit games followed by Hoff (3), Holt (3), Kavanagh (3), Schick (2), and Donaugh (2).
 
It's Long Gone:
• Davis hit a pair of home runs against PFW (4/20) for her fourth and fifth of the season.
• Redshirt Freshman Molly Upton connected on her first career home run with a three-run shot against PFW (4/20).
• For the first time in her career, Fessler hit a home run and followed with a second in the Titans' 6-2 win over CSU (4/14).
• Donaugh's second homer of the season was a three-run shot that sealed UDM's 6-2 win over CSU (4/14).
• Davis posted her second home run of the season vs CSU (4/13).
• Junior Jordan Kavanaugh connected on a two-run home run for her first in a Titan uniform at IUPUI (4/7).
• Sophomore Avery Paul's first career hit was as good as it gets as she belted her first career home at BGSU (3/30).
• Junior Amanda Schick went 1-for-2 hitting her first career home run in a Titan uniform at YSU (3/17).

• Olivia Malcolm posted her first career hit in the win at North Alabama (3/7) and first career double vs UMES (3/8).
• Alexis Hoff's first career hit was a double at MTSU (3/1).
• Alicia Avina recorded her first career hit against Toledo (4/18).
• Redshirt Freshman Molly Upton connected on her first career home run with a three-run shot against PFW (4/20).
• Upton secured her first career collegiate hit vs PFW (4/19).
 
Walk it Out:
• Fessler leads the team in walks (19) followed by Claire Borg (14) and Donaugh (10).
 
Double Duty:
• Junior Jordan Kavanaugh leads the pitching staff in strikeouts (60) and complete games (8).
• Kavanaugh tossed her third complete game of the season which proved to be the charm as she picked up her first career win in a Detroit Mercy uniform allowing only one run on five scattered hits with a strikeout as the Titans locked down a 2-1 Metro Series win over arch-rival Oakland for the first time since the 2019 season (4/11).
• She recorded her first career complete game tossing 6.0 innings with a season-high eight strikeouts at IUPUI (4/6).
• Kavanaugh also went 3-for-7 overall with an RBI double and walk at the plate.
 
Shut Em' Down:
• Graduate student Olivia Warrington is second on the team in strikeouts (55).
• She picked up her second win of the season tossing her fourth complete game with a season second-best five strikeouts in the 6-2 win over CSU (4/14). After giving up a two-run home run in the second inning, Warrington shut down the Vikings, holding them scoreless over the final five innings.
• Warrington picked her first win of the season after tossing a complete game shutout only giving up six scattered hits in 7.0 innings of work lifting UDM to a 2-0 at North Alabama (3/7).
 
So Close:
• The Titans have come up short in one-run games on six occasions, 3-2 vs PFW (4/20), 2-1 at IUPUI twice (4/6), 5-4 at BGSU (3/30), 9-8 vs Maryland Eastern Shore (3/8) and 3-2 at MTSU (3/4).

Detroit Mercy 2 at Northern Kentucky 10 (6 inn.) (Apr. 26)
Freshman Jada Davis posted an RBI double while sophomore Jenna Holt added a hit as Detroit Mercy opened up #HLSB series action with a 10-2 setback at Northern Kentucky on Friday at Ignatius Grein Field. Graduate Student Olivia Warrington had four strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief.
 
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 2 vs Robert Morris 8 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 1 vs Robert Morris 4 (Apr. 22)
Sophomore Jenna Holt went 2-for-3 in game one while junior Jordan Kavanagh hit 2-for-2 with an RBI and walk at the plate and recorded her eighth complete game in the circle with a season-second-best eight strikeouts in game two as Detroit Mercy closed out its nine-game home stand with an 8-2 and 4-1 setback to Robert Morris in #HLSB makeup doubleheader action on Monday at Buysse Ballpark.
 
Freshman Alexis Hoff and junior Amanda Schick each went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the first leg of the doubleheader while sophomore Trinity Fessler also hit 1-for-3 with a run scored. Hoff added her second hit of the day with a RBI single in the nightcap with freshman Jada Davis posting a double and a run scored. Sophomore Elyssa Adams also added her eighth hit of the season.

Freshman Jada Davis hit a pair of home runs with three RBI while a day after securing her first career collegiate hit, redshirt freshman Molly Upton connected on her first career home run with a three-run shot as Detroit Mercy battled but came up short 3-2 in the first leg of a #HLSB doubleheader series to Purdue Fort Wayne and fell 13-5 in the nightcap on Saturday at Buysse Ballpark.
 
Junior Jordan Kavanagh tossed her seventh complete game with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work in game one. She also went 3-for-5 on the day at the plate. Junior Amanda Schick, sophomore Trinity Fessler, freshman Claire Borg, and sophomore Jenna Holt each posted two total hits while freshman Alexis Hoff and junior Jaiden Lara had a hit each.
 
Detroit Mercy 0 vs Purdue Fort Wayne 9 (6 inn.) (Apr. 19)
Redshirt Freshman Molly Upton secured her first career collegiate hit while sophomore Jenna Holt added a hit as Detroit Mercy dropped a #HLSB series opener 9-0 to Purdue Fort Wayne Friday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. Graduate Student Olivia Warrington recorded three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
 
Detroit Mercy 4 vs Toledo 14 (5 inn.) (Apr. 18)
Freshman Jada Davis connected on her team-best third home run of the season with a three-run shot while junior Jordan Kavanagh added her second long ball of the year with a solo homer as Detroit Mercy dropped a 14-4 decision to Tolden in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. Freshman Alicia Avina also recorded her first career hit.
 
Fessler belts two home runs followed by a three-run shot from Donaugh as Titans earn DH split with Cleveland State
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 6 vs Cleveland State 2 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 1 vs Cleveland State 12 (6 Inn.) (Apr. 14)
For the first time in her career, sophomore Trinity Fessler hit a home run and followed with a second while sophomore Alison Donaugh's three-run homer sealed a 6-2 #HLSB win over Cleveland State in the first leg of doubleheader action on Sunday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. The Vikings won the nightcap 12-1 to take the weekend series.
 
Graduate Student Olivia Warrington picked up her second win of the season tossing her fourth complete game with a season second-best five strikeouts. After giving up a two-run home run in the second inning, Warrington shut down the Vikings, holding them scoreless over the final five innings. Freshman Jada Davis went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while freshman Claire Borg and sophomore Elyssa Adams each recorded a hit in game one. Davis also added her first career triple in the nightcap.
 
Detroit Mercy 1 vs Cleveland State 3 (Apr. 13)
Freshman Jada Davis posted her second home run of the season while junior Jaiden Lara recorded a hit as Detroit Mercy battled but came up short 3-1 to Cleveland State in home opening action at Buysse Ballpark on Saturday afternoon. Junior Jordan Kavanaugh went the distance in the circle tossing 7.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
 
Titans Stun Arch-Rival Oakland with First Metro Series Win Since 2019
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 2 at Oakland 1 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 0 at Oakland 8 (5 Inn.) (Apr. 6)
Junior Jordan Kavanaugh's third complete game of the season proved to be the charm as she picked up her first career win in a Detroit Mercy uniform as the Titans locked down a 2-1 Metro Series win over arch-rival Oakland for the first time since the 2019 season. The Titans dropped the second leg of the doubleheader 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Oakland Softball Field.
 
Freshman Claire Borg delivered the big hit in the first game with a two-run double to score freshman Alexis Hoff and junior Amanda Schick giving the Titans a 2-1 lead for good. Hoff went 2-for-2 while Schick and sophomores Alison Donaugh and Jenna Holt each recorded a hit.
 
Detroit Mercy 0 at Oakland 10 (5 inn.) (Apr. 9)
Junior Jaiden Lara broke up a no-hit bid in the top of the fifth inning as Detroit Mercy fell at arch-rival Oakland 10-0 in the Metro Series opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Oakland Softball Field. With two outs, Lara hit a ball up the middle to break up a no-hit bid by Oakland ace pitcher Sydney Campbell.
 
Detroit Mercy 2 at IUPIU 10 (5 inn.) (Apr. 7)
Junior Jordan Kavanaugh continued to be hot from the plate connecting on a two-run home run for her first in a Titan uniform as Detroit Mercy dropped a 10-2 #HLSB series finale at IUPUI on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Alexis Hoff posted her third double of the season with a walk while freshman Jada Davis and junior Amanda Schick each went 1-for-2.

Junior Jordan Kavanaugh pulled double duty going 3-for-7 overall with an RBI double and walk at the plate while tossing 6.0 innings with a season-high eight strikeouts in the circle in game two as Detroit Mercy came up short with a pair of 2-1 #HLSB doubleheader setbacks at IUPUI on Saturday afternoon.
 
Graduate Student Olivia Warrington was also solid in the circle posting a season-high eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work in game one. Sophomore Trinity Fessler went 3-for-3 with a run and a walk in game one and drew three walks in the nightcap while freshman Alexis Hoff hit 2-for-3. Freshman Claire Borg also recorded a hit and a walk in the first game.

Sophomore Avery Paul's first career hit was as good as it gets as she belted her first career home run while going 2-for-3 overall as Detroit Mercy battled but came up short 5-4 in the first leg of a doubleheader at Bowling Green in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Meserve Field. The Titans also dropped the nightcap 8-0.
 
Freshman Alexis Hoff was also solid at the dish going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman Claire Borg hit 1-for-3 with an RBI while freshman Jada Davis also went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Alison Donaugh added a hit-while and run with sophomore Trinity Fessler had run with two walks.
 
Detroit Mercy 1 at YSU 10 (5 inn.) (Mar. 17)
Junior Amanda Schick went 1-for-2 hitting her first career home run in a Titan uniform in the fourth inning as Detroit Mercy fell 10-1 in #HLSB St. Patrick's Day action at Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon at the YSU Softball Complex. Sophomore Alison Donaugh and freshman Alexis Hoff also each drew a walk.

Sophomores Alison Donaugh, Trinity Fessler, and Jenna Holt each recorded two hits as Detroit Mercy kicked off the #HLSB season with an 11-1 and 10-1 doubleheader setback at Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Softball Complex.
Freshman Claire Borg, junior Jaiden Lara, and sophomore Elyssa Adams also each recorded a hit.
 
UNA Tournament (Mar. 7-9):
First Win in the Books
Game 1 - Detroit Mercy 2 at North Alabama 0 | Game 2 - Detroit Mercy 2 at North Alabama 6 (Mar. 7)
• Sophomore Alison Donaugh went 1-for-3 hitting a clutch home run in the top of the seventh inning to lead Detroit Mercy to their first win of the season with a 2-0 decision at North Alabama to earn a doubleheader split.
• Warrington picked her first win of the season after tossing a complete game shutout only giving up six scattered hits in 7.0 innings of work.
• Freshman Jada Davis plated sophomore Jenna Holt for the game-winning run off a suicide squeeze in the fourth inning.
• Freshman Claire Borg and redshirt freshman Olivia Malcolm also each posted a hit.
• The win at UNA also marked the first career win for Head Coach Dan Vitale.
 
• For the second consecutive tournament, Fessler hit .300 to lead the Titans going .389 with seven hits, two doubles, with four runs scored.
• Donaugh also hit .308 with four hits, a home run, two runs, and a team-best five RBI.
• Schick posted three hits with a double, RBI, and run.
• Davis also had three hits with two doubles, two RBI, and a pair of runs.
• Sophomore Elyssa Adams posted two hits with a double, two RBI, and a run.
• Freshman Olivia Malcolm also recorded two hits and a double with a pair of runs.
 
MTSU Invitational (Mar. 1-3) | at MTSU DH (Mar. 4) | at Tennessee State (Mar. 6):
• Davis hit her first career home run which also was the first long ball of the season for the Titans at MTSU (3/4).
• Davis hit .250 overall with three hits, a double and two RBI.
• Sophomore Jenna Holt hit lead-off triples in consecutive days against MSTU (3/3-4)
• Fessler hit .300 with three, a double, RBI, and a run.
• Freshman Claire Borg had two hits with her first career double
• Junior Amanda Schick had a double against Army (3/2).
 
WKU Hilltopper Classic (Feb. 23-24):
The Titans kicked off the 2024 campaign playing five games at the WKU Hilltopper Classic with they went 0-5.
• Sophomore Alison Donaugh led the way at the plate hitting .455 with five hits, a double, RBI, and run scored. She went 2-for-3 against EIU (2/23).
• Junior Amanda Schick was second on the team batting .333 posting a hit in three of four games played which included a double and RBI. She recorded her first hit in a Titan uniform against EIU (2/23).
• Sophomore Jenna Holt was the other player to record three hits going 2-for-3 vs Saint Louis with a hit vs EIU (2/25).
• Sophomore Elyssa Adams had two hits going 1-for-2 in both games vs EIU.
• Junior Jaiden Lara added her first hit of the season off an RBI double against WKU (2/24).
