Titans Record Two Wins, Several Top-10 Finishes At EMU

Junior Jaden McKenzie was fourth in the 400-meters at Eastern Michigan.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (1/25/2025) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team posted several top-five finishes with a pair of wins as the Titans finished up Eastern Michigan's Bob Parks Memorial Meet on Saturday.

Freshman James Wallace won the 200-meter dash event with a time of 22.11 seconds and was third in the 60m in 6.98. It was the second 200-meter victory of the indoor season for Wallace, as he also won at Notre Dame back in December.

Junior Joshua Otten also earned a victory for the Titans, as he clocked a personal best 8:30.48 to win the 3000m. Otten won for the second straight week after winning the mile run last week at Saginaw Valley and his time in the race is now eighth in school history, surpassing head coach Guy Murray '89 in the top 10.

UDM had two other finishers in the top-8 of the 200m as sophomore Nicholas Johnson crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 22.71 seconds and freshman Andrew Drakos was seventh in 23.74.

In the 400m, junior Jaden McKenzie finished fourth in 50.19 seconds.

Senior Cody Bartlett claimed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.82 meters, while freshman Jack Gonzalez was sixth with a personal best jump of 11.95m.

Junior Anthony Yip led the Titan throwers in the shot put with a personal best toss of 11.97.

The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore McKenzie, Johnson, Wallace and sophomore Mike Ferguson closed the meet for the Titans with a runner-up finish, clocking a time of 3:29.40.

UDM will have a short week as it runs in the Akron Invitational on Friday.
