UDM To Run In Akron Invite On Friday

Freshmen Sofia Figueroa and Blake Shaya and the rest of the Titans will look to elevate their performances at Akron.

DETROIT (1/29/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's track and field team will continue its busy indoor schedule as the Titans get ready for the Akron Invitational on Friday.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m., at the Stile Athletics Field House.

Through the first half of the indoor campaign, the Titans have several runners in the top eight in the Horizon League.

For the men, a few athletes have their names in multiple events. Freshman James Wallace has the third-best 60 (6.84) and fourth-best 200-meter (21.72) times. Junior Joshua Otten is fifth in the 3,000m (8:24.61) and sixth in the mile (4:11.86), while senior Cody Bartlett stands sixth in the triple jump (12.82m) and eighth in the high jump (1.95m).

Graduate senior Simon Jones finds himself second in the heptathlon (4,084), junior Jaden McKenzie ranks sixth in the 400m (49.41) and the quartet of Otten, McKenzie and sophomores Mike Ferguson and Nicholas Johnson have the second-best 4x400 run (3:21.57).

For the women, freshman Meghan Koss leads the Horizon League in the 200m at 24.59.

Senior Nina Pizzo is eighth in the mile (5:08.71), while junior Zoe Morris is eighth in the high jump (1.60m) and the 4x400 team of senior Ashlee Lewis, junior McKenzie McNitt and sophomores Kayla Wize and Gabriela Gashaj is fourth (4:00.98).

Detroit Mercy is coming off a successful weekend at Eastern Michigan as Wallace won the 200m and Otten claimed the 3,000m, while Koss placed second in the 60m and 200m and freshman Audrey Williams took third in the 300m.
