McKenzie, Wallace Earns Finals Bid & Jones, Neary In Contention After First Day Of #HLTF Championships

Sophomore Mike Ferguson helped the Titans register three points in the DMR.

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (3/1/2025) -- Junior Jaden McKenzie and freshman James Wallace earned a trip to the finals, and the distance medley relay got the Titans on the board as the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team started the Horizon League indoor Championships on Saturday.

The event is being held at Purdue Fort Wayne.

Detroit Mercy took home three points in the distance medley relay as the quarter of senior Ashwin Philip, junior Joshua Otten and sophomores Mike Ferguson and Christopher Russelburg finished sixth in 10:22.86.

McKenzie moved into the finals in two events, winning his heat in the 400-meters in 50.09 and placing eighth in the 200m in 22.45.

Wallace claimed fifth in the 60-meters in a time of 6.95 and just missed his spot in the 200m by running 22.48 for ninth.

The heptathlon has graduate senior Simon Jones in fifth with 2,512 points as he tallied a couple of PR's in the shot put (11.33m) and high jump (1.67m), while sophomore Joshua Neary is right behind him in sixth with 2,445 points, posting a career-best in the shot put (10.92m).

Freshman Luke Bracket placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles in 11.17, just missing the finals, while sophomore Nicholas Johnson was 10th in the 60m in 7.06.

Day two of the event will get underway tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
