Otten King Of The Mile, 4x400 Takes Bronze At Horizon League Indoor Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (3/2/2025) -- Junior Joshua Otten became the first Titan to win the mile, and the 4x400 was third as the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team ended the Horizon League Indoor Championships on Sunday.

UDM was fifth with 38 points at the conference gathering held at Purdue Fort Wayne.

Otten had a wire-to-wire finish in the mile as he finished in a time of 4:13.53.

He then earned points in the 4x400-meter relay, teaming with junior Jaden McKenzie and sophomores Mike Ferguson and Nicholas Johnson for third in 3:23.14.

Sophomore Joshua Neary and graduate senior Simon Jones scored for the Titans and put their names even higher in the Titan record book in the heptathlon. Neary was fourth, recording 4,303 points - third in school history - and ended the event with a win in the 1,000m in 2:53.44. Jones was right behind him, placing fifth with 4,223 points - fourth in the UDM record book.

McKenzie was fifth in the 400m in 50.14 and took sixth in the 200m, clocking 23.52, while freshman James Wallace placed sixth in the 60m in 6.95.

Senior Cody Bartlett finished 10th in the high jump at 1.95 meters and 11th in the triple jump leaping 12.27m, while sophomore Anthony Yip threw 11.95m in the shot put for 15th.

The Titans will now gear up for the outdoor season, which will begin in a couple of weeks.
